Burnley were denied all three points in the latest round of Premier League fixtures after an injury time equaliser from former striker Danny Ings helped West Ham to salvage a draw at the London Stadium.

The Clarets headed into the game looking to climb off the bottom of the table, with rivals Sheffield United having picked up a point the previous afternoon with a draw of their own at Bournemouth.

Chasing a first win in ten games, Burnley hit the front after eleven minutes when David Datro Fofana let fly from 25 yards with a shot that gave West Ham ‘keeper Alphonse Areola no chance.

The visitors continued to have more of the play throughout the first half and just before the break, a well-worked move down the left-hand side saw a cross from Josh Cullen turned into his own net by Konstantinos Mavropanos.

West Ham got back into the game within seconds of the restart, with Lucas Paqueta winning the ball in the Burnley half before striding forwards to slide the ball past James Trafford and into the net.

The home side continued to create chances – with Mohammed Kudos missing a glorious chance to equalise from close range before a deflected cross from Vladimir Coufal came back off the bar with Trafford having been beaten.

West Ham thought they had an equaliser when substitute Ings – who made more than 100 starts during his time with Burnley – managed to find the net from close range, only for VAR to rule his effort out for an offside in the build-up.

However, with the clock ticking into injury time, Ings found space in the box to turn and rifle in a shot that Trafford was unable to keep out.

Even then, there would be chances at both ends, firstly when Sander Berge came close to a winner when he fired just over the bar from close range. Ings then struck the bar at the other end before the home fans screamed for a penalty for an apparent hand ball by Berge which was waved away by the referee.

Josh Brownhill was then denied by a save from Areola with almost the last kick of the game to leave Burnley with a point going into the next game against Brentford this weekend.
