Burnley became the latest team to suffer defeat against high-flying Arsenal on a difficult day for the Vertu Motors-backed side at Turf Moor.

Having suffered defeat against leaders Liverpool a week earlier, Burnley welcomed the side giving chase in the table to Turf Moor – with Arsenal fresh from a 6-0 thrashing of West Ham chasing a fifth successive win.

The Gunners took an early lead in the game when Gabriel Martinelli fired over a cross from the left hand side that was driven in on the half-volley from the edge of the box by Martin Odegaard.

James Trafford saved well to deny Leandro Trossard but when the Belgian forward was then tripped in the box by Lorenz Assignon, Bukayo Saka stepped up to make it 2-0 just before half-time.

The England international added his second just after the break when he smashed a shot beyond Trafford into the roof of the net having cut in from the right-hand side.

Burnley lost Aaron Ramsey to injury after he was caught by Odegaard, before further strikes from Trossard and Kai Havertz saw the away side take all three points.

After two difficult games, Burnley now prepare to head for the capital to take on Crystal Palace next weekend as Vincent Kompany and his side look to try and close the gap the teams ahead in the standings.
