Middlesbrough Fight Back For Vital Norwich Win

Middlesbrough rebounded from back-to-back defeats in the EFL Championship with a crucial victory at home to Norwich City.

Following a win over league leaders Leicester, ‘Boro had suffered losses to both Plymouth Argyle and Stoke, and it looked like a long night lay ahead when Norwich grabbed the lead at the Riverside.

Experienced forward Ashley Barnes was able to beat Seny Dieng at the second attempt to put the visitors ahead, but the game then took a turn when Borja Sainz was sent off after the referee deemed him to have kicked out at Jonny Howson.

Within seven minutes, ‘Boro had drawn level when Marcus Forss turned in a cross from Lukas Engel to equalise and before half-time, the home side had hit the front as Emmanuel Latte Lath chested down a cross before smashing the ball home for his fifth goal of the season.

Making the most of the extra man, ‘Boro continued to heap pressure on the Norwich goal after the break and when Luke Ayling fired over an inviting cross, Engel got on the end of it to volley a shot past visiting ‘keeper Angus Gunn.

The victory means ‘Boro now sit twelfth in the table and are ten points off the play-off places ahead of a trip to QPR this weekend.
